As Mother Monster celebrates her birthday, MTV News takes a look back at her most-interesting confessions ... so far!
By Jocelyn Vena

Listen up, Little Monsters: It's Mother Monster's 26th birthday! And in that quarter of a century (plus one year!), Lady Gaga has managed to reinvent the pop wheel with her eccentric persona and pumping, politically charged dance music. When asked how she planned to celebrate another year, she simply told a Monster on Twitter, "Quinceanera."

While we'll be Quinceañera-ing in spirit, we will celebrate her colorful life and career by remembering 10 of the most-revealing bites she's shared with MTV News. So, dabble on some glitter, put on your best wig, platforms and leotard, and let's take a stroll down memory lane — in no particular order.

10. In 2009, Gaga sat down and explained that when "Poker Face" was re-imagined by Kanye West and Kid Cudi as "I Poke Her Face" (later changed to "Make Her Say"), she felt that it was time for someone to get the true meaning of the lady-love euphemism.

Check out our Lady Gaga soundboard, and leave a birthday message for Mother Monster!

"It's funny, because a lot of my fans were like, 'Gaga, Kanye wrote a song ... and it's not about what your record's about. Your record is about gambling, and this song is about dirty sex things,' " she recalled. "I said to them, 'You're wrong. Kanye was right,' " she explained, laughing.

"That's exactly what this song is about. The record is about how I used to fantasize about women when I was with my boyfriend. It was really exciting that he had so much insight into what the song was about. He's a cool guy."

9. Gaga's pop-music kinship with Beyoncé has been well-documented in two songs: G's "Telephone" and B's "Video Phone." When Gaga headed to shoot the Hype Williams-directed video for "Video Phone," she had this message for the team: "I said, 'I want to do you in your video, and I want to tribute you. I want to dress up like you,' " Gaga recalled telling her co-star. "And Hype Williams ... was so excited. He was like, 'Gaga, I want no makeup on your face.' It was really stripped down — real Beyoncé hair, and we wore the same outfit in the video, and I [paid tribute to] her."

8. Gaga's love for her hometown of NYC is hardly surprising, and she shared on the MTV special "Inside the Outside" that when she sat down to write the track "Marry the Night," "he" was the perfect muse to inspire the song. "It's never gonna go away, the tan of New York never goes away," she explained about always identifying with the city that bred her.

7. During the same special, Gaga opened up about her other inspiration — her fans — adding, "The biggest surprise to me has been my relationship with my fans. They've changed my life. The fans are the thing that you can't learn; they were the instrument in the music that nobody taught me about."

6. Always politically charged and motivated, Gaga has made it her mission to not only make chart-topping music, but also be a voice for the disenfranchised. When she sat down for "MTV First: Lady Gaga" in 2011, she explained that, despite her strong political beliefs, she wouldn't want to run for office.

"Well, first of all, I wouldn't want to be president for the day," she said. "And I say that because I really, for myself, it's important that my message, although it has political implications, I like to keep myself separate because politics can constrain things," she continued. "So, our message can be completely free of any politics, and we can just surge forward."

5. During that "MTV First," when she debuted her video for "Yoü and I," the singer discussed how difficult love can sometimes be and how her art explores that theme. "Sometimes in love, you can't make it work," she said. "No matter what you do, there's this giant boundary between you and someone else. So, that's what it's about: perceiving in your imagination that there's something magical inside of you that you can make it work."

4. At the 2011 VMAs, she pulled the ultimate costume change by appearing as her male alter-ego, Jo Calderone. Gaga, as Jo, took home the Moonman for her fist-pumping equality anthem "Born This Way." Afterward, Jo explained, "She was texting me after the award, after I picked it up for her, and she just said, 'You know, more than anything I've ever gotten before, this means more to me, because "Born This Way" is about the fans and the fans are more important to me than anything I do; more important than f---ing breathing, you know?' "

3. In late 2011, Gaga released her semi-autobiographical video for "Marry the Night," noting that history can be reinterpreted for her art, if need be. "This was one of the first times that the fashion didn't propel so much of the story line," she explained. "It is autobiographical, so the entire story's true, and it's through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past."

2. Behind every great woman is a great Haus. Gaga's famed, rarely spotted, Haus of Gaga are the folks who help create the live shows, fashions and accessories she wears. And they mean everything to her. "They're my best friends," she said. "I'm not really sure what the world thinks ... but I do hear things like, 'Who is the Haus of Gaga?' and 'Are you putting out a fashion line?' And no one gets it. It's not a commodity. It's not something that's meant to be sold.

"It's a real bond and relationship, and that's what I think music and art is about," she said. "They are my heart and soul. They believe in me, and they look at me like a mother and daughter and sister, with pride and love."

1. In the end, everything Gaga does is for her art, and there's no place Gaga feels more at home than onstage in front of thousands of screaming fans. "I don't see the live show as extension of the record at all, it's meant to be a completely different experience with the artist, with myself. I want my fans to come and go to a party," she told MTV News.

"I want them to watch the show and think, 'I'm so f---ing cool that I am here right now.' It's about them. It's about love. It's about art. The show is meant to bring a tremendous feeling and sentiment of escapism."

Share your birthday wishes for Gaga in the comments below!

Teams Adam and Cee Lo hit the stage to sing for America's votes.
By John Mitchell

Last week on "The Voice," Teams Blake and Christina hit the live stage and saw their numbers dwindle by two contestants each after all was said and done. On Monday night (April 9), it was Team Cee Lo and Team Adam's turn to sing for their survival in the competition and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

Levine and Green, out of his Elvis clown costume from last week but sporting the bright red he's been rocking all season, seemed in good spirits at the top of the show, even joking with Blake about how underdressed he was.

Remember: The top three vote-getters from each team will move on automatically, while the bottom three will perform for their respective coach (and America, duh!) Tuesday night, hoping to secure Cee Lo or Adam's lone "save" to stay in the hunt to be the next "Voice."

Away we go!

Up first was Team Adam's Katrina Parker, singing the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight." Adam's big advice for Katrina was to stay away from belting too hard to avoid comparisons to Adele. She did what he said but drew mixed reviews from the judges, who felt the song wasn't a good showcase for Parker's talents.

Team Cee Lo's first contestant to take the stage was Cheesa, whose play on the '70s classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" was brimming with coach Cee Lo's signature Technicolor swagger and had the judges championing her showmanship. "That was like watching 'Solid Gold,' " Blake said. "That had Cee Lo written all over it."

Team Adam's Tony Lucca has become an early favorite for one big reason: He used to share the TV screen with coach Christina Aguilera — who's been looking better than ever with toned-down makeup and hair since the live shows began — on Disney's "The Mickey Mouse Club." Sensing what Aguilera ultimately called out — that he can be a "one-dimensional" performer, who has been helped along by his connection to her — Adam pushed Lucca to go more pop with Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," but Lucca's rocker growl struggled through the song's falsetto moments.

Kim Yarbrough was reliably strong if imperfect singing Adele, but when are we going to put a moratorium on tackling Adele? In its relatively short life, "Rolling in the Deep" has been pillaged by reality-TV singing contestants almost as much as, well, Christina's "Beautiful" circa 2004-ish "American Idol."

Boston mechanic James Massone from Team Cee Lo got tossed a curveball with Norah Jones' "Don't Know Why" and proved himself both a chameleon with a killer falsetto (take lessons, Tony Lucca) and quite a lady's man. Blake was his most enthusiastic supporter, declaring, "I almost threw my panties on the stage just now."

(And here we thought he only got worked up like that when his best bro hit the stage. Hope Adam doesn't get jealous!)

Meanwhile, the night's next two performers, gravel-voiced rocker Juliet Simms and unique-voiced Mathai, played right to their strengths with Sting's "Roxanne" and a jazzy remix of John Legend's "Ordinary People," respectively, and earned the expected raves. "You did the best of anyone who's performed so far," Adam said of Simms. "Your voice is dope," Xtina concurred.

Ultra-confident rocker Tony Vincent was up next, singing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." If the Broadway-meets-dictator-podium stage setup was strange, his vocal performance was anything but. He reeled it in from previous performances and proved he could control his powerful voice.

Simms, Mathai and Vincent were definitely tough acts to follow, but subdued Karla Davis, singing "Airplanes," and Team Cee Lo's former model Erin Martin were picked for the task. Christina called Karla the "biggest surprise of the night," while Blake criticized the song choice, and even Adam commented that Davis did a stronger job when she was less nervous while they were practicing in the rehearsal space.

Martin certainly brought serious production values to her take on the Bangles' "Walk Like an Egyptian" (with her chariot and man dancers, she was giving us Madonna at the Super Bowl vibes, albeit in a much smaller way) but forgot to bring much aggression to her actual performance. "Here we go again with the male strippers," Blake commented. "I think Blake just bought a one-way ticket to Boner Town," Adam quipped in response. "And it's not refundable," he hit back.

It's never a great sign when the judges are more consumed by the production than the performance when you're on a show called "The Voice," is it?

The folks behind the scenes wisely chose two of the show's best-known showstoppers for the end of the night, saving Team Adam's preppy Pip and Team Cee Lo's Jamar Rogers for last. Adam wanted Pip to break out of his shell and gave him the chance to show off his rock-star bona fides with "When You Were Young." Pip brought flash, but Christina wasn't loving it, saying she didn't feel like he was connected to the song and had early pitch issues. Adam agreed; Pip's got the voice, but he's missing the grit and, should he move forward, that is something they will have to work on.

Closing out the night, Rogers hit the stage in his best Michael Jackson jacket for Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way." The audience loved it and so did the judges, and Jamar, with his unstoppable stage presence and dramatic backstory of overcoming drug addiction and living with HIV, continues to seem like a front-runner in the competition.

Who do you think gave the best performance tonight on "The Voice"? Let us know in the comments below!

Mayer road-trips through America in his Born and Raised clip.
By Jocelyn Vena

In his new "Shadow Days" music video, John Mayer is leaving behind the bright lights and hustle and bustle of the big city for something simpler.

The video is a road trip, with Mayer dressed up as a cowboy, making his way across the heartland of our great country to just chill out and let it all go. It's a completely uncomplicated premise. Mayer treks through snowy landscapes, small-town motels, deserts and mountains to just find himself and, as the song addresses, let his past go.

He leads an unfussy life in the clip, as he travels from place to place, buying guitars, eating greasy food in diners and rocking a cowboy hat with the sort of sincerity only a few guitar-slinging pop stars can pull off.

Not much happens in the clip, but that's kind of the idea. The story is nothing more than Mayer driving across America. But the sun-drenched message, perhaps, is that Mayer is looking to something simpler these days, given how his personal life has had some turmoil. For a man who has a reputation for breaking starlets' hearts and has battled vocal-cord issues, Mayer seems to want to change his story and redirect the conversation back to his music.

While the video opened with shots of a cityscape in all its artificial glow, it closes on a denim-clad Mayer, walking alone near the side of an abandoned road with just the sun to keep him company.

"Shadow Days" is the lead single from his next album, Born and Raised, due May 22. He had planned to tour in support of the album this spring but had to cancel after he learned he was still battling a granuloma growth on his vocal cords. This video might be the closest things fans will get to a Born and Raised Tour.

What do you think of John's latest video? Share your reviews in the comments!

'I'm going to go from the 'Haywire' crew to the 'Fast 6' crew, so I'm going to get a very broad range of knowledge,' she tells MTV News.

Action fans rejoiced earlier this week when The Hollywood Reporter announced that MMA fighter-turned-actor Gina Carano was in talks to join the sixth "Fast & Furious" movie. It seemed like an inspired choice for the series that saw new life after "Fast Five" impressed last year.
MTV News caught up with the breakout star while she was promoting the Blu-ray release of "Haywire," and she spoke excitedly about the prospects of joining the action series.
"We got a call about two weeks ago to do 'The Fast and the Furious 6,' " Carano said. "We're in negotiations for that, so if that goes through, that will be a really cool opportunity for me to get my feet wet on another big-budget film and be around all these different types of actors."
Carano seemed pleased at the idea of appealing to different bases of fans within the action genre, moving from the art-house appeal of "Haywire" to the mainstream explosions of "Fast & Furious."
"I'm going to go from the 'Haywire' crew to the 'Fast 6' crew, so I'm going to get a very broad range of knowledge as far as people go," she said. "It's like two different high school groups. You've got the very artistic, and then you've got the action group of athletes, like hard-core. Very different personalities there."
Carano is in negotiations to play a member of Dwayne Johnson's team in the upcoming sequel directed by "Fast Five" helmer Justin Lin. As for whether Carano has begun sizing up her soon-to-be castmates, she said that's not something she has to think about. "No, I'm pretty secure. I don't need to size anybody up. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about giving a good performance and understanding my character. That's what I'll focus on."
The actress wouldn't say for sure how close she was to signing on, but remained optimistic about her prospects. "It will be really good for me, and I'm completely open to it," Carano said. "If negotiations go good, we'll probably start filming that."
Check out everything we've got on "Fast & Furious 6."
